I have appreciated my time here and encourage anyone thinking of volunteering to apply.

 

 

I arrived at Camillian Social Center in December 2012 and stayed here for 6 weeks.  I arrived at the center just before the holidays.  The people of the center welcomed me into their holiday and made me feel right at home to join in the celebrations.  I spent Christmas, New Year’s, even my birthday with them!  They have been wonderful and accepted me into everything they have done during my time here.

 

During my time here I have assisted the children at Home of Charity by providing occupational therapy treatment.  I had the opportunity of working with many of the children one on one during the day.  They have a great physiotherapy area at the center in which I was able to work with the children.  I briefly assessed the children’s strengths and weaknesses and then was able to work with them from then on.  The children are always willing to work with me and will usually attempt anything I ask them to try to do for me. 

Even outside of therapy times, I got to enjoy playing with the kids and watching their day to day.  It was great to see how the children function in their everyday lives, and how HOC has encouraged them to be as independent as possible in their activities.  The staff that work with them are WONDERFUL.  They tirelessly take care of the kids everyday and address every need they have.  They truly care for the children, and I cannot say enough great things about them.

I have appreciated my time here and encourage anyone thinking of volunteering to apply. They have built an exceptional program here.  I can truly say that by staying here I have not just observed the culture, but got a chance to become a part of it.  At the center you can catch a glimpse of Thai, hilltribe, and a general mixture of many different cultures.  They all bring their own aspects to the center to create a truly unique environment.  It has been an incredible experience that I will not soon forget!
