I had been having the dream to volunteer for a long time and finally I found the right place. At the Home of Charity I had my first experience and surely not the last. I have stayed there two weeks only due to the fact that I haven’t been given many days off work but I had enough time to feel at home.

The kids were always smiling, always thankful and shared a lot of love not only among each others but also with me, since the first moment I walked in the center. Also the staff members were really friendly and always tried to communicate with me to make me feel welcomed. One day I have been also taken to a village that the Camillian Center is supporting and where it opened a school few years ago. It was very nice to see how people live in this part of the world.

The center is well organized, the gym for rehab fully equipped and the kids are well looked after. At the first sight, I felt sad for them, I was worried about their future, but then I felt better when I realized that the Camillian Center is giving them a chance to live their lives at their best, it is giving them hope for a better future where they can express themselves and it is making them believe that they are like anybody else. Because they are like anybody else: same feelings, same smiles and same beautiful eyes that can say thousands of words.

Everybody that has the luck of experiencing the center can learn what real love is, love for any human being, no matter of where you are from or how your look is and that is a lesson I have been given for the rest of my life.

I thought I would have gone there to give, and I did (I did my best during rehab and during the activities to give help and put my knowledge at kids benefit), but I also received a lot. I have been given something special I brought with me back home: I have learnt that love is the best way to communicate. It is very simple, you don’t need many words, two eyes can be enough.

I have to thank everybody that made me realize this dream as I had one of the best experiences of my life. I will never forget the people I met at Camillian Social Chiangrai.
