From Doris - an undergraduate from Taiwan

I’m Doris, an undergraduate from Taiwan. I went to CSCC by a group. “Love Beyond Border. Love is Bigger” is the name of our team. It is constituted by four students from my university. This project is not organized by university or any charity organization in Taiwan, but totally set up by student self. Our mission is to deliver the love from Taiwan to Thailand.

We stayed in Home of Charity for two weeks, and it was not enough at all. Everyone wants to stay longer. Before I went to CSCC, everything was so excited to me. I couldn’t wait to meet children there. I’ll never forget the first day in Home of Charity that every child greeted for our coming. They were so enthusiastic and polite. We were arranged to feed children, assist them to the toilet, put on clothes and keep them company. They were just like my friends in childhood, singing a song and playing table tennis with me. Though I was a stranger, they loved me unconditionally. After I fed or assisted them, they would say “thank you” sincerely. I can see their extraordinary braveness and independence from any other children at the same age.

Being a volunteer is not only devoting your time to children, but you have to do everything with all your heart, which can usually let you get a lot more than you paid. These children do not have everything, but they are happy every moment. Not alike the general ones, these children can only go home once or twice a year. They do not feel they are unlucky, but cherish everything they have and always feel satisfied. Nowadays, more and more people keep chasing material benefits, but always forget what do they need certainly. Sense of contentment is truly the most important thing that we can learn from these “teachers”.

The most impressive thing to me is the night party. We prepared a night party for the children, which was combined by some traditional Taiwanese dancing and Thai pop songs. The children really liked that, especially the fast songs. They dance together and shouted out loudly. Although there was linguist barriers between us, they used the most direct way to express their thank to us, big hugs. It was unforgettable.

The days in CSCC were the happiest days of my journey. Thank to Sister Cecilia and Jirasak, who gave us this wonderful chance to go there. Meeting these children is the best gift for us. Thank to every staff in HOC for teaching us how to assist children and taking us for adventure in CSCC. I will never forget everyone I met. This is the best summer of my life ever!
